Thanksgiving there is a Vegas?

It was a great Turkey Holiday! It was Babys' first Thanksgiving and we all got together at Rocio and Big Z's house.

Saturday morning we then headed out to Vegas to see Vicente Fernandez in concert. It was almost perfect. The fact that Mirns did not make it to the show was the almost perfect part of it. It was my Sister in laws birthday so she got the ticket and partied with her as you can imagine to the wee hours of the morning!

Chente did not dissapoint. He sang a collection of his classics, some of his newer ones and then he drove it home. He sang one of my intoxicted favs of cruz de olvido. Let's just say there was not a dry eye in our row during a few songs.

After weeding our way out of the event center at Mandalay we proceeded to casino hop down the strip. We stoped and hit up the minus 5 bar and then went on and had a whole lotta more drinks!

Enjoy some of the snap shots....

Hawaii?

It's tuff but I had no choice. Work required me to spend 3 nights on Oahu and 3 nights on Maui.

It was tuff....

In Oahu, we stayed in Waikiki. My room was located in the Hyatt Regency Waikiki. We were in the Eva tower on the 22nd floor and had a Deluxe ocean front room with some awesome views of Waikiki Beach.

I did something i have looked forward to for as long as i can remember. They took us to the Arizona Memorial. My experience was everything I expected and much more. It is a very somber mood but there is a great sense of respect and pride when visiting this historical place...

We also toured the majority of the island and experienced Halloween in Waikiki... It was great.

We then flew over to Maui where we would spend the next three nights at the Sheraton Beach Resort in Kaanapali. Again we were treated to a deluxe ocean view room...

In Maui, we went snorkeling to Molokini crater. It was a great experience that i would recommend to everyone. Even if you can barely swim, you can easily do it at molokini...

They then motored us over to Turtle Suburbs where we saw several turtles swimming around while in company of only one other boat. The other place known as turtle town had about 15 boats anchored up right on top of each other... Reminded me of Catalina Island when the squid float...

Anyway, it was fun but a lot of work as well and i missed the Mirns and Baby...

I posted some pics on Facebook... Aloha!

New Boat?

Not for me.... My friend Rick just picked up a new fishing machine. In this economic down time great deals are out to be had. I can't say what he got it for but it is a great deal.

It is a 24' Triton, with a 250hp Mercury Verado 4 stroke motor...

Sweet, Sweet, Sweet....

Check it out.

Small Wedding Sunday

Marlito and I had a gig this Sunday at the Capistrano Ranch. Nice Setting, great weather BUT.....

Yup, it was on a Sunday. We left the house around 10.30am were done setting up by 12.30pm. We weren't scheduled to start playing music at 1.30pm but wondered why the guests were having cocktails at 1.00pm when all of Sudden we hear the HARP...
YES, i said HARP. he played for the half hour and then we took over.

As you can imagine it was lame and it was too much of a mixed crowd. The grooms family was country, the brides disco and the kids wanted to hear Lil Wayne.

We had strict rules NOT to play ANY Hip Hop or Techno... Techno?

Anyway, it was ok. Some people danced and then it was just country.... We were wrapped up by 6pm...

BIG wedding weekend

We played a big wedding this weekend. Even though we knew it was going to be a grind, I actually had a great time at this ceremony. We arrived shortly before 4pm and set up was a breeze. The logistics were all in our favor. We began playing cocktail music at 5.30pm and at 6pm the Mariachi arrived. They then played till about 7.40pm. We even worked them into the Grand announcement. Who doesn't want their names announced to "La Negra". We then played the usual pomp and circumstance and were all wrapped up with all the usuals by 9pm.

Then we hit the dance music till 2am... It was a great dancing crowd, we started with some cumbias for the parents, then into some Merengue for dancers, then into the dance hip hop, then into Banda, then into some 80's Disco, then into some Classic House, then into some Rock en Espanol, then into some New Wave, then back into 80's disco, then into some Rancheras and then at 1.30am it wound down and wrapped it up....

Chek out the pic with the Grandma still jamming at 1.00am...

Great evening...

Fish Tacos?

This was a GREAT weekend! Los DOYERS actually won! They won, they won, they won!
To watch the great game Doug and I hosted a Fish Taco frenzy. We took the delicious red snaper, brown rock fish, ling cod and bass fillets and made Ensenada style fish tacos with all of the fixings. We batter them in Capeador, a delicious batter mixture we buy in Ensenada, deep fry them in our outdoor fryer. The fish is accompanied by none other than a warm corn tortilla, secret white Ensenada fish taco sauce, salsa picada and shredded cabbage.

To accompany these beauties my sister in law Evelia made a delicious jaiva ceviche. With a bit of tapatio or catsup, you can't beat it.. To accompany all this goodness was great company and a frosty beverage. Sam Adams October Fest or Miller Lite... The choice was yours!

I didn't take pictures Saturday but Sunday we did a minor version of it and I snapped a couple of pics...

Enjoy!

Erendira 092808

Well we got the call that the yellowfin were biting. Doug and finagled our way into a trip down to Erendira again. We fished our usual two days with a hair raising experience. The first day started out as usual and as soon as we were about 10 miles out the wind started to gain force. Once we were 25 miles out and we had the jigs going it was Victory at sea. We had an unusual condition of the northern winds hitting against warm southern winds. This condition creates some big waves in the middle of the ocean and just about turns the sea into a washing machine. Unfortunatley Doug fell victim to the seas wrath and became sick. He hung in there once saw the signs of life in the form of flying fish. I then knew we had found the right area. Sure enough a few moments after seeing the first couple of flyers we had a double jig strike. Some how some way Doug landed the first Yellow Fin Tuna and some how some way I lost the first one... After landing that one some time later we had another jig strike. Doug reluctintly fought the fish while i threw a bait in... 30 seconds later i was bit and 10 minutes later i landed my first tuna of the day. We started to troll again and when i looked back i saw my friend for the first time with his head in between his arms... It was time for us to go. On the way in, Eggy (Captain Edgar, by the way only a few of us are allowed to call him that) treated us to a special locals only spot... In a few minutes we had loaded up on some nice ling cod and red rockfish in very shallow water. Just what Doug needed to bring him back to life...
Needless to say day two of fishing consited of shallow water rockfishing within a stones throw from shore. It wasn't as an adventourous day, but fun none the less...

I love this place.

One week and counting

Soon, soon soon, i will be in Ensenada grubbing on delicious tacos de el trailero. They offer the best variety. From left to right the huge taco stand/restaurant has some kick ass tacos.

They have Al Pastor, then a disco (wok type pan) with carne de res, longaniza and suadero. Then they have the tacos al vapor de cabeza followed by a mesquite fired pit with carne asada. Finally we have one more disco frying fresh fish and shrimp tacos. Bush ells of fresh radishes, bowls of jalapenos, limes and bunches of green onions line the counter top. Did I mention that all of the tortillas are freshly made...

I can throw down about 6-8 of them and a Mexican coke. On the other hand my friend with 7 stomachs Doug usually eats about 10. I swear I don't know where they go...

When we return from the trip i will post some pics...

The evolution of wireless communication...

I have been fortunate enough to own a wireless phone from an early age. My brother Sergio let me buy a cell phone and activate it under his Pac Tel Cellular account. Any one remember Pacific Bell? I was 17 at the time and owned this huge cell I use to carry in my back pack. A year or so later just before I got out of high school Motorola introduced a sleek compact cell phone. We both upgraded as soon as we could get our hands on it. Through the years I have gone through just about a cell phone every year and a half always having an account with Pac Bell, then Air touch and now Verizon. For the first time ever, i will be switching wireless carriers.

Yesterday, I began my quest to get my chubby lil hands on a new cheaper i phone after Mirns said she was going to get it for me as a gift.
After calling a few AT&T stores and hearing, Thank you for calling At&t wireless we don't have any i phones how could we help you? I decided to go straight to the source. Mirns and I set out for the Brea apple store when i decided to call on the way there. They politely told me that I would not make it in time to wait in line and that they would probably run out by the time we got there. He then told me to call in the morning to see how many would be available for that day. Ok, I then thought to myself, South Coast Plaza has to have them. When the Ipods were sold out for Xmas 2 years ago they were the only one who had them. I know, My compa German bought 6 of them on the 23rd of DEC. Anyway, I call them and its the same sad story.
What the F? I waited 2 weeks so i wouldn't have to wait. After we got of the freeway in Cerritos to get some Ice Cream we drove by the AT&T store and decided what the hell. We walk in and the guy says, dude, just pay for it and you will have in about 2 days. SO SHE DID.... I hate paying for stuff and not having it in my hand ASAP....

I CAN'T WAIT! Here some pics of my first two phones and my last two phones.

Graduation Day!

Today was Sissy's big day. Julissa Desiree Asher graduated from high school. Considering I met this young girl when she was 1. Then she went on to never speak a word to me for the next 7 years. Finally one day I walked in to their house and she walked by and said," Hi Abel".

After I came to, I would like to think we were friends since then. Now she is all grown up and heading to college.
Congratulations Sis....
